Barco Reale D.O.C. di Carmignano

80% Sangiovese and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon.

This wine takes its name from the two-metre high, 52 km long wall (Barco Reale) that the Medici family erected in 1626 to delimit what could be defined as Italy's first nature reserve. The Barco Reale was then considered by Cosimo III de' Medici (in the Bando Granducale of 1716) as the boundary for the production of Carmignano wine.

Barco Reale is made from 80% Sangiovese and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Harvesting is separated by grape variety and lasts from the end of September to the first ten days of October. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in wide stainless steel vats for greater skin-liquid contact and better extraction of tannins and colouring agents. After malolactic fermentation in steel, Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon are blended in the tank.

On sale from the autumn following the harvest, to offer a wine of pleasant fruitiness and vinosity together with good body and elegance, as is typical of Carmignano wines.
Barco Reale should be served at 17-18°C in red wine glasses to enhance the freshness and fruitiness of this wine.
